In Second Life, we worked 4 months together to fight cancer. We believe that one day there will be a cure! We are the... UNITED FORCES AGAINST CANCER!

Relay For Life of Second Life is holding its annual event this July 18-19. Relay For Life is an event that raises money to help the American Cancer Society reach its goal of a world without cancer.

This year the theme of Relay for Life of Second Life is 'One World One Hope'. As you tp into the Starting Area you will see flags from participating countries, and information about Relay for Life in different languages. In real life, Relay for Life takes place in 21 countries and here in Second Life we expect participants from at least 20 different countries around the world. With one important difference: They all walk the same track, together!

The many avatars that participate do this so that those who face cancer will be supported, that those who have lost their battle will not be forgotten, and so that one day cancer will be eliminated.

On July 18th 12pm till 19th 12pm they will do just that and everyone is invited to attend, participate and help support our fight in eliminating cancer throughout the world.

United Forces Giant snail race report

Yesterday saturday June the 20th 2009, 5 members of United Forces went to do the giant snail cross country race: Vivienne Dufaux, Starfire Silverstar, Wiu Bing, Monosurround Difference and myself Morgan Kincess.

It was our 1st giant snail race ever and it was hilarious. 45 sims to cross. We had a few accidents like multiple crashes, got stuck under roads, and the worse is that I was 2nd till the final turn where a road sign was missing. The organisers noticed it as I took the wrong way (and didn't let me know) and placed a billboard sign after me for all the others snails and I got stuck in it. I arrived 36... :) Monosurround arrived 16th, Wiu 17th, Vivienne 37th and Starfire 41st out of 50 snails.

During the race 500 regions went down. So the last 12 snails never made it to the arrival as there was no more sim at all.

I really wanted to make sure that all the team made it completely and Starfire who had multiple crashes wanted also to finish no matter what. So we waited half an hour till the sims were back, and went back there to be with Starfire for her arrival. All the giant snail race arrival decorations were gone but we didn't care. We came as United Forces team so we ended at United Forces team!

Join us, show your support and wear purple on June 1st.

On the first day of June, if you are going for a stroll or if you are having a party with friends, wear a purple ribbon, toss on purple clothes, turn your house lavendar even - and yell out to the world that you support the fight in against cancer!

This idea came out of a Relay For Life Group Chat, where the subject was about giving support to those who are in the waiting stage in their fight against cancer, pointing out how hard and scary that part is and how support from others helps so much easy, just knowing others are there.

When Jasmine, Zoie, Tari, Kat, Nikkie, Spaci, Jane - relay volunteers - started talking about how in real life whole towns would turn purple to show support for the fight against cancer; they decided it would be an awesome idea to do the same here in SL. Not everyone has money to give or even time to spend, but everyone can wear purple.

COME ON! Purple Day doesn't cost one red cent or one virtual linden. Instead you have the chance to show your support for the fight against cancer just by helping to turn SL purple. Let's show RL that we are ONE WORLD and WE SUPPORT EACH OTHER!

The New Champagne Rooms is proud to support Relay for Life (RFL), an amazing event started by the American Cancer Society. In 2008 it was the most successful fundraising event in the history of Second Life, raising more than $118,000 USD. The New Champagne Rooms has teamed up with United Forces Against Cancer and this year we have a goal to raise $250,000 USD. Come and help us reach our goal and support cancer research.

The lovely Champagne Ladies will be on stage at May 31st at 1pm SLT to tease and tantalize in a traditional burlesque style. And as a special treat, the vivacious Miss Vivienne Dufaux from the Original Moulin Rouge will be there to spin music for your pleasure! Being vintage burlesque this will be a mature show, but the lovely Champagne Ladies know how to put on a great show with class and just the right amount of sass!

Come for the show and then stay to dance the night away in the upstairs ballroom. Also featured will be special items designed by our vintage vendors just for RFL. This is an event you will not want to miss!

Everybody is invited to join the online Relay for Life of SL site. You are welcome to join United Forces Against Cancer
1. Log on to www.events.cancer.org/secondlife
This takes you to the SecondLife Home page within the ACS website.
2. Click Sign Up
3. On the next window, choose Join A Team.
4. On the next window, type in your team name: United Forces Against Cancer
The team should come up, and you click join on the right hand side next to your captain's name Morgan Kincess
5. On the next window, choose RFL of SL Fundraising Registration. You can also set an individual goal and make an individual donation at this point. This is not mandatory. Click next step.
6. On the next window, you must fill in all the starred fields. In RED at the top are directions on how to fill them out using your SL information. Then you need to create a user name and password so you can access the information about your team and your personal information. Then answer the two questions. Country is optional, but you must answer if you are that you are a team member, then if you are a cancer survivor or caregiver. There is not a line for Co-Captain, you would just pick team member.
7. Click next and you are done.

Now you can give the website to all your RL family and friends and they can make donations on behalf of your SL team!!

Re: Kick Off Party - March 14th.

We have been busy creating the stage, invites, checking sounds, etc but something pops up in our minds " Why not include all the SL Relay Community, if the theme is - One World, One Hope?"

We (the whole entertain committee plus a few volunteers- Erin Messmer, Franco Amat, UB) created the kick-off stage with many earthballs.

What we would like from you is something that would be integrated into our creation.

We are searching for people who would like to send us their portrait pic (close up) of their smiling (avatar-) face, just to show the world that you are close to people with cancer and to show your support in finding a cure.

Your portrait could be one which would will be aligned by a ribbon to all the others to show everyone that we are ONE WORLD and at the same time, that we have ONE HOPE!

The goal of a team is to do a friendly battle with other Relay for Life teams in SL and raise the most funds possible. As reminder last year we have made all the teams together 200.000us$. So we must and can do better this year.

Here in this blog, you will find infos on all activities of the team United Forces Against Cancer that will happen in Second Life. For the moment we plan to do electronic music parties, fashion shows, auctions. Of course any ideas are welcome.

The team will be complete and officially registered the 14th February 2009.

Relay for Life of SL starts the 14th March 2009 and goes till July 2009.
